We have painstakingly worked to perfect both a wooden feel and certainly a natural wood appearance, but with a fully UV-protected resin that will last for years to come. The closed reservoir is completely protected from mosquitos and other insects, and the lids cannot be opened by small children. This is a key feature in keeping your water pure and ready for use on your vegetables. Because no sunlight reaches the water, no algae or bacteria can grow inside. Additionally, our special diverter kit prevents leaves or debris from entering the rain barrel, thus eliminating sediment on the bottom.  All of this means that you do not need to clean out the rain barrel from time to time.
The rustic Timber Rain Barrel comes with a simple but universal, rainwater diverter kit which connects to your existing downspout. First, determine the ideal placement for your rain barrel in close proximity to your downspout. A drill bit is included for both your rain barrel intake hole, and your downspout exit hole.  The intake hole can be drilled in any location around the rain barrel, as needed for the barrel’s final placement. The same bit will be used on the downspout to create the exit flow-hole to your rain barrel.  In 30-60 minutes, your downspout will be ready to begin filling. Once the rain barrel is full of water, the diverter kit forces additional water past the diverter and down to your existing drainage system.
Assembly Note: The only assembly necessary is the attachment of the water spigot to the barrel and installation of the diverter. Allow approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on skill level. The barrel must be installed on level ground - a layer of gravel or raised pavers will make draining easier. The spigot hand tightens into the predrilled outlet hole, so give thought to your preference for adding paver height or not, before drilling out the downspout. A drill bit is provided to prepare your existing downspout and rain barrel for the diverter device. Once a hole is drilled in both, simply attach the fittings and tubing provided to prepare for use.
